Homeschool Spaces.

You’ve made your goals, shopped your shelves, and had a blast shopping for new stuff. Right?! If you missed Part 1, go now, I’ll wait right here. Now, the next steps to having your best homeschool year ever is to evaluate your space, make changes and organize, organize, organize.

Do you have a whole room dedicated to homeschooling? Or just a few kitchen cabinets to store supplies? I’ve done both, mamas. (And daddies) Each one had it’s unique advantages and disadvantages. First, walk in there with fresh eyes. Did it work last year? What would you like to change? If you’re like me, you need to write these things down. Cup of coffee (or tea) in hand, just dream for a moment about the perfect homeschool space.

Not perfect! It works.

Unfortunately, my dream is financially impossible. So, I’ll do what I can. Secondly, it helps to clean out the unnecessary. Any old papers that can be tossed or filed? Any old curriculum that you know you will not use? Let it go! Let it go! Yep, go ahead sing it, you know you want to and your kiddos love it.

The storm before the calm.
My sweet littlest scholar. Aka, the book thief!

Now, I have a toddler who loves to rearrange my bookshelves, so this step will be happening at least weekly around here. Next, let’s tidy up what is left of our supplies and curriculum. The bulk of our stuff shares space with my hubby and my office and my sewing/hobbies. We do a lot of our actual work at the dining room table. We have a bookshelf right beside our table that I store the bulk of our daily supplies.

Next, if it’s your thang, let’s pretty up our space or spaces. Out of necessity, I keep the decor to minimal in the office. And I don’t want the dining room to scream “homeschool.” Even though I recently purchased a vintage chalk board and hung in there. Non-homeschoolers do that, right?

Why yes! That is an IKEA cart.

We’ve concentrated on our space. To get those spaces ready for the best homeschool year ever, we need to …

  • Evaluate our space. Write a list of our wishes and decide what we can do this year.
  • Clean-up and declutter. Yeah, I know, not my fave either.
  • Organize our materials. You’ll probably find some more gems you’d forgotten.
  • Make it lovely.

Hope this helps you have the best homeschool year ever! As always, I’d love to hear from you. Drop me a comment here. Tell me your favorite homeschool prep tip. Visit me on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

Happy Homeschooling!
